Learn from the Experts: Speaker Lineup

The seminar features an impressive lineup of speakers, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. They will cover a range of topics essential for successful gardening in our unique Hill Country environment.

Improving Your Soil

Justin Skibitsky, a Comal Master Gardener with a degree in Plant and Soil Science from Texas Tech, will kick things off. He will dive into the foundation of every great garden: the soil. Learn how to improve your soil’s health to create a robust environment where your plants can flourish. Justin’s expertise will provide you with the practical steps needed to build a strong base for your garden.

Ornamental Vegetables for Your Landscape

Next, Patty Leander will show you how to blend beauty and function in your garden. As an Advanced Vegetable Trainer and columnist for The Texas Gardener Magazine, Patty knows how to make a garden productive and beautiful. Her session, “Flavor from the Ground Up,” will explore how to incorporate ornamental vegetables into your landscape, adding both visual appeal and a fresh harvest for your table.

Central Texas Hill Country Trees

Leon Dominic, a Commercial Landscape Designer and Fort Bend Master Gardener, will focus on the majestic trees of the Hill Country. He will discuss the benefits trees provide, proper care techniques, and recommend species that thrive in our local climate. This talk is perfect for anyone looking to add shade, structure, and long-term value to their property.

Drought-Resistant Turf Grass

Finally, Skip Richter will address a key concern for many Texas homeowners: turf grass. As a lecturer, radio personality, and retired Horticulture Agent for TAMU, Skip is an authority on creating resilient landscapes. He will share his insights on selecting and maintaining turf grass as part of a drought-resistant strategy, helping you create a lawn that is both beautiful and sustainable.
