The timeline to apply fall pre-emergent herbicide to your lawn is the beginning of September through mid to late October. There are three criteria that must be met for seeds to germinate:

Correct moisture
Correct temperature
A good location (soil)

When these conditions are met, the seed will sprout and you will have weeds.

New Braunfels Feed and Supply offers their own mix of Winterizer 18-16-2 formulated for our area as well as Amaze, or XL2G. Amaze is a selective pre-emergent herbicide for season long control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds.  It comes in easy-to-apply granules and can be applied over the top of foliage.

On the all-natural side, we offer Medina HastaGro Lawn 12-4-8.  This liquid lawn food is like getting a lawn care kit in a bottle. Just attached a garden hose to this ready-mix formulation and give your lawn a boost.

Most folks also apply fertilizer this time of year. Some of the all-natural fertilizers we offer include LadyBug, 7-2-2 and 6-2-2 Garden-Ville and Medina Organic.  Medina Organic, available in a 40Lb bag is our most popular organic option.  It’s very good for the lawn, does not burn and provides great results.

Synthetic fertilizers include Ferti-Lome and Hy-Yield products. No matter what product you favor, follow the label directions and know the square footage of your lawn.
